Structural Dynamics Laboratory
The Structural Dynamics Laboratory in Hessert Center has developed an experimental structural dynamics and vibration testing capability. The facility includes the equipment for shaker excitation (25 or 50 pound) or impact excitation and multi-channel data acquisition with associated instrumentation. On-line digital data acquisition and processing can provide multi-input and multi-output capabilities. Using an HP9000-320 computer, traditional modal analysis and data presentation can be conducted. Analysis capabilities include modal animation, and structural modification. Recent research has also resulted in the development of analysis methods based on discrete time series modeling techniques which can be used to develop alternatives to the modal representations. Applications ranging from automobile brakes to sub-scale aircraft structures have been studied.
