Notre Dame is located just north of city of South Bend, Indiana, in the north central portion of Indiana, near the Michigan border; the region is known locally as "Michiana".

To reach Notre Dame from the I-80/90 toll road, take Exit 77 and turn south onto Michigan Street, also known as Business U.S. 31. Proceed south about one mile, till the traffic light at the corner of Angela and Michigan. (St. Joseph High School will be on the west and a Notre Dame sign on the east). Turn left (to the east) onto Angela and proceed for about one mile to the traffic light at Notre Dame Avenue and Angela. Turn left (to the north) onto Notre Dame Avenue and proceed for about 1/8 mile. Visitor parking is just to the east side of Notre Dame Avenue.

Fitzpatrick Hall (marked on the campus map), where most faculty have offices, is a large building about two hundred meters north of visitor parking (or one hundred fifty meters northwest of the football stadium); many graduate student offices and laboratories are in the adjoining Cushing Hall. The Hessert Center for Aerospace Research, where some faculty and graduate students have offices and laboratories, is at the far north end of campus, about one hundred meters north of the water tower.
