PhD Candidate Xingfei Wei - "Thermal Transport in Soft Materials and Across Hard-Soft Interfaces"

WHERE: 258 Fitzpatrick Hall
FROM: 12:00PM TO 2:30PM

Polymers with high thermal conductivities are of great interest to both scientific research and industrial applications. In this dissertation, I use molecular dynamic (MD) simulations to study the fundamentals of thermal transport in bulk amorphous polymers, including 1) polymer blends, 2) block copolymers and 3) polyelectrolytes. In polymer blends, the thermal conductivity is strongly related to the chain conformation, especially the spatial extent of the polymer chains, which can be characterized by their radii of gyration (Rg).
