Advancing multimodal theranostics with nanoengineering approaches

Advanced nanomaterials are highly desired for many emerging forms of bioimaging techniques and disease therapies due to their high payload capacity, tunable physicochemical properties, multimodal functionality, controlled degradation/release, and precise therapeutic delivery.

In this seminar, I will discuss the development of multimodal nanotheranostic platforms designed to improve the detection of breast lesions, enhance the efficacy of cancer phototherapies, and mitigate oxidative damage associated with organ injury. I will also highlight key design considerations that may govern their translational potential. Collectively, these studies provide insights into improving disease diagnosis and treatment through the use of novel nanoengineering approaches.

Dr. Jessica Hsu is an Assistant Professor in the School of Health Sciences at Purdue University. She directs the Nanoengineering for Advanced Theranostics (NEAT) Lab, where her research integrates nanomedicine and molecular imaging to advance disease detection and therapy. She earned her PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Dr. Hsu has authored >60 peer-reviewed publications and has received multiple distinctions, including an NIH K01 grant, the WIMIN Rising Star Award, and SNMMI’s Ones to Watch recognition. She is a strong advocate for women in science and strives to cultivate a diverse, collaborative, and dynamic research environment.
