Six Notre Dame engineers have been awarded 2022 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships and another has received an honorable mention.
The fellowship program provides support for outstanding students pursuing full-time research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) or in STEM education. Undergraduate seniors and early-career graduate students may become fellows.
2022 fellows from the College of Engineering are:
- Thomas Best ‘18, aerospace and mechanical engineering (AME)
- Robert Frei, senior in mechanical engineering (AME)
- Meredith Lochhead, senior in civil engineering (CEEES)
- Lauren McGiven, Ph.D. student in civil and environmental engineering and earth sciences (CEEES)
- John Sayut, senior in mechanical engineering (AME)
- Ethan Williams, senior in electrical engineering (EE)
In addition, Gabriel Brown ‘20, aerospace and mechanical engineering (AME), received an honorable mention.
Since the program’s beginnings in 1952, 42 recipients have gone on to become Nobel laureates, and more than 450 have become members of the National Academy of Sciences.
